Dear Sister...: A collection of American Civil War letters from a Confederate officer.

William Mills Nunnally, a Confederate Civil War officer from Caswell County, North Carolina, wrote many letters home from the battlefield. Nunnally was enlisted into Confederate service on May 22, 1861, and was soon after transported north to be a part of the Army of Northern Virginia under the command of General Robert E. Lee. This collection of letters was written from July 1861 until his death during the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1, 1863. WM Nunnally, as he frequently signed his letters, wrote letters home to his mother, brother, and four sisters. His letters depict life on the Battlefield in the heat of the American Civil War and are written with great clarity, description, and evidence of his education. He experienced and recorded multiple famous Civil War battles including the Battle of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and of course the Battle of Gettysburg where he was killed and buried on the battlefield.
